Psychotherapy and Counselling

Psychotherapy and counselling can help individuals coping with a variety of difficulties or issues. These may include:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Relationship difficulties
  • Addictions
  • Eating disorders
  • Self-defeating behaviours
  • Grief and bereavement
  • Problems of self-image and low self-esteem
  • Psychological trauma

Psychotherapy and counselling offer an opportunity for individuals to explore difficulties they may be experiencing through a relationship with a skilled and qualified professional therapist.

An initial assessment on an individual basis will focus on exploring problems and difficulties that you may be experiencing. In a non-judgemental, open, honest and welcoming environment your therapist will assist you in exploring your difficulties.

The assessment will assist you in determining the most appropriate course of treatment for you as an individual. Therapy may be offered on a shorter-term basis, most usually between 4 and 16 sessions, or on a longer-term basis. Generally appointments will be arranged and offered to you weekly, with each appointment lasting fifty minutes. Daytime and evening appointments are available.

Types of therapy

At Meriden we offer a number of therapeutic approaches.

  • Psychoanalytical psychotherapy
  • Person-centred counselling
  • Intergrative counselling
  • Hypnotherapy
  • Group Therapy

These therapies offer an opportunity to explore the links between earlier life experiences, including developmental stages and family upbringing, and the ways in which these experiences may affect patterns of relating to others, self-image and self-esteem. The therapeutic relationship also offers an environment where you can explore, at your own pace and in your own way, thoughts, feelings and emotions that may be difficult to share with others. In so doing an opportunity is afforded to explore new ways of thinking and relating, over the course of the psychotherapeutic relationship.
